| KITCHEN
REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER
- Set thermostats at proper temperatures (between 38-40
degrees Fahrenheit for your refrigerator and 5 degrees
for you freezer)
- Make sure doors have a tight seal
- Clean your refrigerator coils every so often
- Don't allow frost to build up more than one-quarter
of an inch
MICROWAVE
- Microwaves use only about half the energy of most conventional
ovens
- Keep the interior clean
- Cook food in serving dishes to save on dish washing
WINDOWS
- Weather-strip and caulk all windows
- Keep shades lowered in the summer, raised in the winter
- Window tinting can save you money
DISHWASHER
- Wash full loads (A fully loaded dishwasher will use
less energy than would be required if the same amount
of dishes were hand-washed, according to the Association
of Appliance Manufacturers.)
- Many dishwashers have internal heating elements that
allow you to decrease the temperature
- Let your dishes air dry
OVEN
- Keep interior and exterior clean
- Cook several items at once
- Avoid preheating when possible
- Defrost food before cooking
- Self-cleaning ovens are more efficient thanks to additional
insulation
SINK
- Use cold water whenever possible
- Repair leaky faucets immediately
- Fill the sink to hand wash dishes, don't let the water
run
